Flat fees are fees that are agreed upon for a specific matter or a particular deliverable. For example, we charge a flat fee for drafting a standard power of attorney, real estate sale agreement, or demand letter. The fee is earned when you receive the deliverable and it’s to your satisfaction.
We also charge flat fees for various matters with which we are so familiar and have sufficient history that we can anticipate the cost. In these cases, the time the Firm devotes to the matter is not relevant. We perform the services and are paid as they are accomplished. For example, if you are a first-time offender charged with Driving Under the Influence, we may set a flat fee of $XXXX. Your fee agreement will include benchmarks when specific portions of the fee are earned or the fee will be deemed earned when the entire matter is completed.
